mmmmmmmm....gonna be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
I didn't read the books, and don't really even care for fantasy movies, but LOTR was just awesome. A COMPLETELY original tale....just a great story, and the movie just makes it all come to life......BEAUTIFUL visual effects. |

/me already has a sweet screening copy of the first movie on VCD. Yeah, don't give me that biz about bootlegging, I'll be the first in line to buy the collector's DVD when I comes out.

play SVCD in Mac? | ||
|
Speaking of the LOTR screener. The copy I have plays fine on my Apex DVD player, which plays just about anything, but it won't play on Pioneer player or my Mac. I DL'd a couple of VCD players for OS 9 and X, but none work. Is it becuase my copy is an SVCD? When I look at the disk contents, there's a 700+ MB mpg2 file in there, but QT doesn't play it.
The reason is that I want to take screen caps and use them as desktop pics. I can do this by plugging my DVD player into my vid capture device, but that device only captures at 640x480, and I'll lose a lot of quality. |

do you have final cut pro? if so, import it (it will import to fcp) then go to the frame which you want to be your desktop, cut it so it is the only frame. Then export to jpg. (if imovie had an mpg import then it would be a lot easier)

Or get Quicktime Pro. Best $20 you'll ever spend.

Re: SVCD | ||

I've been trying to get VCD to play on my nice shiny new iMac - and I found out that OSX doesn not support the VCD standard (probably because Apple are pushing DVD).
There is 1 pay-for player that runs under OSX that I've found so far, which is MacVCD by Merith Technologies (or something like that); anyway, do a Google search on MacVCD. Otherwise, I'm afraid that you have to boot up in OS9 (Carbon won't cut it) and then it'll play in QuickTime 5.0 (but not 4). If you select the 'open Movie in new Player' option, you'll get a browse window with a 'Convert' button that lets you browse round your cd until you find the .DAT files. You'll have to play them indervidually, but hey, at least you can watch stuff! *mutter* *grumble* Bah, humbug! |
