Personally, I found that 10.1 solved many of the main issues with the OS itself but there are several key applications I want to see make the move before I start up into X first thing in the morning. My Top 5 waiting for OS X apps: 1) Photoshop - mid-to-end Q2 last I heard 2) Office v.X - not long to go for that one 3) Dreamweaver - no idea 4) Illustrator 10 - out now 5) UMAX scanner drivers - who knows

Off the top of my head the main apps holding me back from dealing with X full time are (in no particular order): UT, Unreal, and Deux Ex Digital Performer A choice of usenet clients a bug-fixed Quicken 2002 Canon scanner drivers full support for 3rd party multi-button USB mice/USB overdrive Toast a fully aqua/OSX-compliant AppleWorks or Mariner Write I've been having great fun with Canvas 8 and the Corel 10 suite for modest dabbling in graphic design/layout. Thinking about being Microsoft-free in OS X, Briareus

As for scanner drivers, maybe UMAX, Canon etc. are waiting for the Photoshop plug-in architecture to be 'finalized' before deciding anything. Personally I never used the spring loaded folders so I can't quite say that it's a necessity for me. I actually think Office 2001 was a pretty good effort by MS and v.X looks even better.

Another app that many here, judging by the sigs, would appreciate seeing carbonized is of course Flash. Macromedia have been pretty quiet since releasing Freehand 10. For those with MS mice, there was a report on XLR8 that OS X drivers for Microsoft USB mice should be posted by mid-December.

Also, MIDI support is still not very stable either. Until OS X becomes WAAAAY more mature, I'll be using my Beige G3 with 8.6 on it for my studio work. I have my new iBook, but sadly, it is a bit underpowered (mostly from the graphics department side of it) to run OS X successfully... that will stay at system 9 for a while too. I want to believe, but OS X is just not a "drop everything else and switch to it" operating system yet. If OS X were completely up to snuff, and I could do everything that I can do now in it... I would go out and buy a new G4 and all associated goodies for it tomorrow. I'd be dropping some serious cash in a hurry.

I don't do any digital audio work so I'm not that informed on the area but I hope apps start appearing considering the amount of Macs in studios. What about peripherals? I gather MOTU at least has started shipping firewire devices...

I understand though and if the state of other apps and drivers is as you describe then you're right that there isn't much point moving even if one wants to be a "believer".
